Orangeburg, NY -- C.A.M.P. Technologies’ RTV Camper was the recent winner of two prestigious manufacturing awards from the Society of Plastics Engineers.

The competition was held at the ‘07 Thermoforming Division Conference in Cincinnati between September 16th and 19th. Contestants competed for three different award categories of which the RTV Camper won the People’s Choice Award and the Twin Sheet category award.

The People’s Choice Award is the grand prize and is given to the product that has the most impressive design out of all of the categories.

The Twin Sheet category award is given to the product that has the best twin sheet construction in its design.

The judges felt that the RTV Camper, which is comprised of 11 twin sheet molds that form the trailer body panels and make them come together as one unit, was the most impressive combination of functionality and design at the conference.

"Making all of the molds come together is a difficult task," said Francis J. Hirt, from Spencer Industries, the company that provides the body panels for the Camper. But, when you add features like hinging, automotive gaskets and multiple other parts, this becomes a great award-winning accomplishment."

Twin-sheeting is the process of heating two sheets of plastic and then forming and sealing the two sheets of plastic together during the forming process. The flexibility of the process allows the manufacturer to use different molds for the top and bottom sheets. In the case of the RTV Camper, the back sheet provides the structural integrity, while the front sheet gives it its design and appearance.

"The sheets are prepared with "stand-offs" to provide rigidity," says C.A.M.P. parent company DHS Technologies CEO Jon Prusmack. "You can hit the Camper body panels with a baseball bat and they will not bend."

The competition is particularly noteworthy since this is the first time in the 17 years since the contest’s inception that a single product has won two awards in the same year.
